On Zimmermann piano ... and a Mexican evening
I was invited to perform at the official opening of the Mexican Residence in Hong Kong, where I played on an old Zimmermann piano that the Consul-General brought with her across half the world. The action is light (a Viennese action perhaps?) and agile, and the sound reminded me of an old Pleyel - very sweet upper register, slightly thinner than a modern German grand (think Chopin nocturnes being played on old Pleyels of mid-1800s). The mahogany case is also beautiful sculpted.
