Corsica

This is going to be one of many posts about Corsica ...  :)

The birth place of Napoléon Bonaparte and Christopher Columbus, Corsica has miles of beaches with crystal clear water and fine sand, mountain ranges that would amuse even the most adventurous climbers, and really fine restaurants.  I would recommend hitting all three.

I arrived into Corsica from Sardinia (or Sardegna) in the south, which was only a ferry ride of about 11km.  Bonifacio is the first town you'd see, with a castle perched on the cliff and fine restaurants lining the seaport.  It was from Bonifacio I started off exploring the rest of the island.

One of the most amazing climb was at the Araggio, north of Porto-Vecchio.  The short climb is medium in difficulty, narrow and stony but still manageable, about 30 to 45 minutes of non-stop uphill surge.  Once at the top, however, you'll find it well worth the effort: a massive fortress of an ancient rock castle built in prehistoric times (16th - 12th centuries BC) overlooking the gulf and Porto-Vecchio.  This is an experience money cannot buy.
