Segovia and a drive around Castilla y Leon
The historical town of Segovia is a must-see when you go to Spain, and the surrounding area in the province of Castilla y Leon equally worth a visit. The road from Madrid is one of the most effortless drive: 4-lane highway with minimal traffic. After your visit to Segovia, take only country road and don't get on the highway. Here you will see olive groves, endless fields, ancient castles (hence the name Castilla), specialty food of the region. To see Castilla y Leon is to take in centuries of culture and history of the Spanish people.
Segovia boasts several important sights: the Roman aqueduct, the impressive cathedral, the Alcazar or Royal Palace, and hoards of salivating tourists over its roast suckling pigs.
One of the more impressive castles around the region is the castle of Coca. It's a 15-century Mudéjar (Muslim) castle that still stands today in a town full of relics from the past. http://www.castillodecoca.com/
