Food shopping in Paris

The Faubourg Saint-HonorĂ© or the Boulevard Saint-Germain may be the universal worship of French luxury and wealth, but the queste du Graal for the quintessential Parisian experience is the less visited street of Rue Mouffetard.

Rue Mouffetard is an interesting street in the 5th district (or 5eme arrondissement).  It is one of the oldest streets of Paris, and if historical documents prove correct, it was already here during the Roman times.  Believe it or not, it was this road that connects the Paris Left Bank in the Roman times all the way to Southern Italy.

There is an added reason for my coming here: food shopping.  The open market is as lively as an Arab zouk, with vegetables and fruits in all colours of a rainbow to fishes and seafood from every ocean to the best cuts of meat to cheeses from small farms in Aveyron to fresh-made pasta to wine of every region.  There are even Asian food stalls to satisfy your exotic palette.  For me, this is food-shopping heaven.

Here's Fodor's commentary about Rue Mouffetard, with map:
